HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Westlake Beats Camarillo in Bit of Give and Take, 7-6

Camarillo High’s Scorpions threw one ball away in the seventh inning and booted another in the eighth, enabling Westlake to escape with a 7-6 Maramonte League victory Wednesday at Westlake.
With two runners on in the eighth, the Warriors’ Aaron Tapking hit a liner to third that was misplayed, allowing Brian Schuter to score the winning run.
Westlake (7-2, 2-1) was trailing, 6-4, in a similar situation in the seventh when Camarillo pitcher Matt Buttell picked up a grounder and threw the ball into left field, allowing two runs to score.
Matt Rirdon had two doubles for the Warriors and Josh Eby picked up his first victory of the season.
Rodell Desamparo hit a double for the Scorpions (6-4, 1-2).
Thousand Oaks 5, Newbury Park 3--Brent Hirsch pitched four innings and earned the victory for the Lancers (5-4, 1-2). Ronnie Hanks had two hits and drove in a run for Thousand Oaks.
Royal 7, Agoura 2--Adrian Mendoza pitched five innings and hit a pair of doubles as the Highlanders beat the Chargers (6-4, 1-2).
Crespi 16, Harvard-Westlake 4--Tony Gonzalez hit a bases-loaded triple during an eight-run third for the Celts (4-6, 2-2) in a Mission League game at Harvard-Westlake.
Gonzalez finished with two hits and six RBIs as Crespi won its third consecutive game after starting 1-6.
Ray Munoz (2-2) allowed the Wolverines (0-9, 0-5) two hits over four innings, striking out four.
Sherman Oaks CES 17, Los Angeles CES 9--The Knights had 12 hits in a Magnet League opener at Los Angeles CES.
Rudy Boroomand had a triple and four RBIs, and Mynor Moreno added two doubles and three RBIs.
Vince Garcia (1-0) pitched six innings in the game that was shortened by darkness.
Cornerstone Christian 11, Ojai Valley 5--Joey Johnson had three hits and drove in four runs for the Eagles.
Shane Campbell struck out 15, walked three, allowed no earned runs and had two hits.
Flintridge Prep 29, St. Margaret’s 0--Ryan Noland and Brian Christian combined on a no-hitter for the Rebels in a nonleague game shortened to four innings at Flintridge Prep.
Derrek Ransford hit his third homer and Royal Forcell, Bryan Trussell, Adam Leising and Bryan Dempsey all tripled for Flintridge Prep (6-2).
SOFTBALL
Kennedy 11, Taft 0--Sandra Durazo and Brandi Mercado combined for 16 strikeouts and held the Toreadors to two hits in a Northwest Valley Conference game.
Dana McCall, Marcado and Carri Mackey each tripled for Kennedy (11-2, 3-1).
Chatsworth 6, Cleveland 2--The Chancellors used a five-run fifth to down the Cavaliers in a Northwest Valley game at Cleveland.
Oliva Miguel (4-5) had seven strikeouts for Cleveland and hit a solo home run in the seventh. Lexi Mendell added two hits for the Cavaliers.
San Fernando 5, Birmingham 3--Maria Luna drove in what proved to be the winning run with a two-run double in the third for the Tigers (6-6, 2-2) in a Northwest Valley victory over the Braves (3-4, 1-3).
San Fernando’s Maria Garcia (3-6) allowed seven hits and struck out six.
La Canada 4, Verdugo Hills 1--Lindsay Parker had 12 strikeouts as the Spartans (9-1) won a nonleague game at La Canada.
Kelly Balkey doubled home a run for the Dons (6-4).
VOLLEYBALL
Highland d., Littlerock, 15-5, 15-5, 15-5--Ryan Millar had 25 kills and committed just two hitting errors for the Bulldogs, the top-ranked team in Division II, in a Golden League match.
Millar had 24 kills in the first two games for Highland (6-0, 6-0).
Royal d. Channel Islands, 15-9, 15-4, 15-8--Danny Rizzo had 16 kills as the Highlanders took sole possession of first place in the Marmonte League in a match at Channel Islands. Scott Hambly and Eric Carlsen each had nine kills for Royal (5-2, 5-0). Carlsen also had five blocks.
Riv Amores had 11 kills and Melanio Lopez added 10 for Channel Islands (6-1, 4-1).
Agoura d. Thousand Oaks, 16-14, 15-12, 15-10--Zack Elam had 21 kills and Amin Jabid added 15 for the Chargers in a Marmonte League match at Agoura. Kyle Alexander had 10 blocks for Agoura (3-4, 2-3).
Van Nuys d. Canoga Park, 15-13, 15-5, 15-3--Ricardo Hernandez had 12 kills and Eugene Kwong added eight for the Wolves (8-0, 5-0) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference victory over the Hunters (6-2, 3-2).
Verdugo Hills d. Lincoln, 15-7, 15-3, 16-14--Andres Rey led the Dons to a Northern League victory at Lincoln.
Mario Gomez had 17 assists and Brian De Los Reyes had six digs for Verdugo Hills (3-4, 1-0).
Monroe d. Reseda, 15-4, 15-11, 15-3--The Vikings (3-5, 3-2) beat the Regents in a Valley Pac-8 match at Reseda.
Fardis Davarpana had eight kills and Brian Ha added six assists for the Regents (2-6, 0-5).
Montclair Prep d. Pilgrim, 15-4, 15-10, 15-4--Brian Reder had 12 kills and seven blocks, and Carlos Roubicek added nine kills and eight blocks for the Mounties (5-3) in a nonleague match.
TENNIS
Westlake 18, Simi Valley 0--The Warriors cruised to a Marmonte League victory behind the singles play of Darren Joe, Todd Campbell and Justin Hoffman at Westlake.
The Pioneers’ top three players--Chris Carrado, Don Oh and Dan Rosuck--managed to win only a combined 12 singles games.
The doubles team of Andy Call and Brian Lee of Westlake (6-3, 4-1) had the toughest time disposing of their opponents, twice being stretched to 7-5.
Agoura 13, Thousand Oaks 5-- The Chargers used a sweep by No. 3 singles player Dillon Ruby to knock off the two-time defending champion Lancers in a Marmonte match in Agoura.
Ruby finished his run of three in a row with a dramatic 7-6 (8-6) victory over the Lancers’ No. 1 player, John Gutierrez.
Camarillo 11, Royal 7--The Scorpions (8-0, 5-0) won eight of nine doubles matches in a Marmonte League victory at Royal.
Nick Varvais and Ben Bayani each went 3-0 in singles play for the Highlanders (8-2, 3-2).
GOLF
LACES d. Kennedy, 254-257--LACES (4-1, 4-1) scored a 4-A City League victory at Knollwood.
Steve Osgood shot 42 in the nine-hole match for the Golden Cougars (1-3).
BOYS’ TRACK
Channel Islands 88, Simi Valley 43--The Raiders (2-3) used victories by Ricky Orozco in the 100 and 200 meters and by Francisco Sandoval in the 1,600 and 3,200 to defeat the Pioneers (0-3, 0-3).
