Coffee Scalds Patron; Burger King Is Sued

MADISON, Wis. — A man has sued Burger King for serving coffee he claims was so hot that it scalded him when it spilled into his lap.
Robert King bought the coffee at the drive-up window of a Burger King in Eau Claire, Wis., last May. After it spilled on him, he had to be treated for first- and second-degree burns to his upper legs, said his attorney, Robert Gringas. King seeks an unspecified amount of damages for physical and psychological injuries and lost wages in the lawsuit.
Mike DeRosa, owner of the restaurant, said Friday that he could not comment because he had not seen the lawsuit.
