SIMI VALLEY : Funds OKd for Depot Restoration
- Share via
Long-promised funding to restore a historic Simi Valley railroad depot has finally been approved by state officials and is on its way to Simi Valley.
The $200,000 grant from the California Department of Transportation will be used for exterior repairs and landscaping at the old Southern Pacific depot.
Now owned by the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District, the 91-year-old landmark was once the hub of Simi Valley. Farmers brought their orange and barley crops there for shipping and virtually every consumer good from the outside world arrived by train and was unloaded at the depot.
