Pacifica, Freshman
Softball/Pitcher
Pacifica Coach Rob Weil knew he was getting another strong pitcher to go with sophomore ace Toni Mascarenas this season. Freed, the younger sister of junior center fielder Kristen, is a standout on her club softball team. “We knew she was coming; we didn’t know how she was going to adjust to the high school level,” Weil said. It hasn’t taken long to find out. Freed is 7-0 with an 0.47 earned-run average. Saturday, she pitched her second one-hitter of the week, beating Mater Dei, 4-0, in the title game of the Fountain Valley tournament. At the plate, she was five for 12 with three runs batted in for the Mariners (12-1). She has a .282 batting average and a .585 on-base percentage.
