Northrop Electronics Systems International, a subsidiary of Northrop Grumman Corp., said it won a $271-million contract to develop a system for Britain that protects aircraft from heat-seeking missiles. . . . San Francisco-based Pacific Gas & Electric Co. said it canceled plans to lay off 800 workers in its customer energy services unit so it can accelerate its efforts to repair storm damage to its electric system.
