Santa Clarita / Antelope Valley : ELECTIONS / 38TH ASSEMBLY DISTRICT : Freeman Joins Race For Seat Left by Boland

CASTAIC — Peggy Freeman, former director of a Val Verde health and social service center for the poor, has joined several other Republicans in the race for the 38th Assembly District seat that is being vacated by Paula Boland (R-Granada Hills) next year.

Freeman, 55, served as executive director for the Samuel Dixon Family Health Center from 1991 to 1994. She has not yet outlined what issues she hopes to address, but said Wednesday that she will stress during the campaign her experience in management, business, health and education.

“I had completed a very worthwhile service at the nonprofit community health center,” Freeman said. “I look upon this as another public service.”

She joins Ross Hopkins, a public and government affairs consultant; Bob Larkin, chairman of the Ventura County Republican Party, and Scott Wilk, Assemblywoman Boland’s chief of staff, in the race.

The district includes Simi Valley, Fillmore and northwestern portions of the San Fernando Valley. It’s a Republican stronghold, so the winner of the GOP primary will be considered the front-runner.

Boland must abandon the seat next year because of term limits on state legislators.
