SANTA ANA — Police are searching for the man who shot and killed a Riverside man in front of a restaurant early Friday morning, authorities said.
The assailant fired several shots and struck Donnie Ward, 27, in the chest after a brief argument at 202 S. Bristol St., according to Santa Ana Police Sgt. Bob Clark.
A police officer on patrol heard the gunshots while and pursued the killer on foot, but the man eluded authorities, Clark said.
The victim died during surgery at UCI Medical Center in Orange about three hours later, Clark said.
Police do not have a motive in the slaying, Clark said.
Officials said they believe the victim used to live in the neighborhood, but recently had moved to Riverside County, Clark said.
