BARBRA STREISAND, who gave her 20-acre-plus Malibu estate said to be worth $15 million--to the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy about two years ago, has purchased a house on an acre in Malibu for about $2 million, sources say.
The Oscar-winning actress and Grammy-winning singer, who broke records in ticket prices and attendance last year when she went on her first concert tour in almost 30 years, also has a residence in Holmby Hills and a home she rents out in the Beverly Hills area.
She had owned her Malibu compound, consisting of four houses and a caretaker’s residence in Ramirez Canyon, since the mid-1960s. She had it on the market for about six years before donating it to the conservancy for use as an environmental research center.
The home she just bought is on a bluff with panoramic views of the coastline in what realtors refer to as the “Queen’s Necklace,” the loop of homes that sparkle with lights at night around Santa Monica Bay. Built in the 1950s, the gated home has three bedrooms in 3,200 square feet.
Streisand, who turns 53 on April 24, has been said to be considering doing a sequel to “The Way We Were,” the 1973 film in which she co-starred with Robert Redford.
She won her best actress Academy Award for “Funny Girl” (1968) and since then, also has won accolades as a producer and director (“Yentl,” “Prince of Tides”).
Jack Pritchett of Pritchett/Rapf Realty, Malibu, represented Streisand, and Susan Monus in Jon Douglas Co.’s Malibu office had the listing, other sources said.
TOM ARNOLD, who stars in the upcoming comedy films “Carpool” and “Big Bully,” has purchased a 20-acre horse ranch in the Malibu mountains, with a newly built home on it, for about $2.5 million, sources say.
“Carpool,” directed by Arthur Hiller, is expected to start shooting in June. “Big Bully,” directed by Steve Miner, is due to finish shooting this month. Arnold, whose career got a boost from his role in last year’s Arnold Schwarzenegger film “True Lies,” also will appear in Hugh Grant’s forthcoming movie “Nine Months.”
Arnold also had his own TV show, “Tom,” which was canceled by CBS last year. Before that, he was mainly known as the husband of comedienne Roseanne, who filed for divorce in July and married her bodyguard in February.
Arnold, 35, plans to wed Julie Champnella, a 21-year-old college student from Detroit, whom he has been dating since last fall. Their wedding is set in July, when his $20,000-a-month lease expires on a Mediterranean villa in Beverly Hills.
Arnold’s new home, also a Mediterranean villa, is about 10,000 square feet in size and has a tennis court. He has no horses now but plans to build a barn and stables, as well as a large gym, sources say.
Raymond Bekeris of John Bruce Nelson & Associates, Beverly Hills, represented Arnold in the purchase. Bekeris and Marshall Klein of Brown Realtors had the listing.
LINDSAY WAGNER, who gained fame in her Emmy-winning role as the Bionic Woman and subsequently made more than two dozen TV movies including “Fighting for My Daughter” on ABC in January, has purchased a Westside house for close to its $815,000 asking price.
Wagner, a familiar TV spokesman for Southern California Ford dealers, is also a former Woman of the Year for LIFE (Love Is Feeding Everyone), and she co-authored the best-selling vegetarian cookbook “The High Road to Health.”
She bought a remodeled Mediterranean-style home, built in 1929, with four bedrooms in 2,500 square feet. The house also has a place outside for her chickens.
Wagner, 45, was living in the Zuma area of Malibu with her family. “It was shocking to me when she decided to move into town,” said selling agent Cori Cooper-Lowe of Jon Douglas Co., Malibu. “She’s been in a Malibu house I leased to her 10 years ago.
“She says that she still loves Malibu but wanted to move closer into town for reasons of convenience for her two sons.”
ESTELLE GETTY, who won Golden Globe and Emmy awards for her role as Sophia in “Golden Girls” and other series, has purchased a home just north of the Sunset Strip for about $825,000, sources say. The home has two bedrooms, maid’s quarters and a guest apartment.
Getty just finished a 10-year run playing her Sophia character in “Empty Nest,” “Golden Palace,” “Blossom” and “Nurses,” as well as “Golden Girls.” She also appeared in movies and on stage, including “Torch Song Trilogy” on Broadway.
She plans to devote herself to such charities as pediatric AIDS and abused women now that her schedule doesn’t include a weekly TV series, a source said.
Rose Borne of Stan Herman/Stephen Shapiro & Associates, Beverly Hills, had the listing, and Scott Anderson of Jon Douglas Co.’s Sunset Strip office represented Getty.
