Tomas Sandstrom scored twice, and goalie Ken Wregget returned after a seven-game layoff to post his NHL-leading 22nd victory as the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Ottawa Senators, 5-2, Saturday at Pittsburgh.
Sandstrom’s second goal came at 10:40 of the third period and helped seal Pittsburgh’s eighth victory in 11 games. Luc Robitaille put a centering pass past defenseman Kerry Huffman, and Sandstrom skated down the slot to score his 18th goal.
Wregget returned from a strained left ankle that had kept him out since March 24.
Winnipeg 5, Toronto 1--Tim Cheveldae made 44 saves and also picked up an assist in leading the Jets at Winnipeg. The Jets were outshot, 45-24, and didn’t have the game firmly in hand until they scored three goals in the third period.
Boston 3, Montreal 2--Bryan Smolinski set up one power-play goal and scored another at Montreal as the Bruins handed the Canadiens their third consecutive loss.
Calgary 4, Edmonton 2--The Flames spotted the Oilers a 2-0 first-period lead, then came back with a goal in the second and three in the third en route to the victory at Edmonton. Paul Kruse scored his ninth goal at 18:46 of the third, with assists by Nikolai Borschevsky and Ronnie Stern, to give Calgary the lead.
