BURBANK : Rock Guitarist Pleads No Contest in Weapon Case

Rock guitarist Eddie Van Halen pleaded no contest to a weapons charge stemming from his arrest this month for carrying a loaded handgun into the Burbank airport, attorneys said Thursday.
Van Halen, 40, guitarist for the rock group Van Halen, entered into a plea agreement last week with the Burbank city attorney’s office. The Studio City resident then left for the Midwest to resume his concert tour.
Van Halen was fined $300 and placed on probation for one year, Burbank Deputy City Atty. Robert Walters said.
Airport security officials found Van Halen’s Baretta on April 7 inside a piece of his carry-on luggage. after an X-ray machine keyed in on it. He was detained from his United Airlines flight by airport police, who held him for about 30 minutes.
