Irvine residents have the rare opportunity of naming two schools: an elementary school being built in Westpark village and a high school in the north Irvine area.
The Irvine Unified School District is accepting name suggestions through May 5 at 5 p.m.
School district policy requires that elementary schools be named after a nearby street or park, a “significant” landmark or in reference to the Spanish heritage of the area.
For high schools, there are no restrictions.
The school board will discuss the nominations in May.

Seats in Golden West College’s theater will be transformed into the cheap seats at Wrigley Field for a student production of “Bleacher Bums.”
The actors will cheer on the beleaguered Chicago Cubbies in Joe Mantegna’s nine-inning comedy, which runs tonight through April 29.
The curtain rises at 8 p.m. at the college’s Stage West Studio Theater, 15744 Golden West St., Huntington Beach.
