Otto Friedrich, 66, a writer for Time magazine and an award-winning author. Friedrich began writing for Time in 1971. He retired in 1992 but continued to contribute to the magazine. His books include “Decline and Fall,” published in 1970, which won the George Polk Award; “A Portrait of Hollywood in the 1940s”; “Glenn Gould: A Life and Variations”; “The Death of Alice B. Toklas,” and “Paris in the Age of Manet.” He also wrote nine children’s books as well as numerous short stories and essays. Before joining Time, Friedrich worked for Stars and Stripes, United Press, the New York Daily News, Newsweek and the Saturday Evening Post. On Tuesday in New York of lung cancer.
