JERUSALEM : ‘New Ideas’ on Syria
Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin says that he will be bringing “new ideas” on how to advance Israel’s peace talks with Syria when he leaves Friday for Washington and talks with President Clinton on Sunday.
Rabin offered no details. Peace talks between Israel and Syria have been stalled for months, and the United States has called on each side to make compromises.
Both the United States and Israel have urged Syria to elevate the talks to the level of foreign ministers and to quicken the pace.
But Syria insists that no progress can be made until Israel commits itself to withdrawing completely from the strategic Golan Heights.
