Frigout Passes on Final Year With Titans

David Frigout, a junior basketball player at Cal State Fullerton, has decided to pass up his final year of college eligibility to play professionally in his native France.

Coach Bob Hawking said Tuesday that Frigout, a 6-foot-9 forward who started 19 games in the Titans’ 7-20 season, plans to sign and play for Evreux in the French Division I league. Hawking said Frigout left Monday night.

Frigout transferred to Fullerton from Groupe Pigier University in Evreux and started 18 games as a sophomore. Flu and then a sprained ankle troubled him late last season when he averaged six points and six rebounds. His rebound average was second-best on the team behind senior Winston Peterson.

“We were hoping that he would be around one more year,” Hawking said. “We’re sorry to see him go. We thought his third year as a Division I player could have been a good one.”

Frigout’s departure will leave Chris Dade and Chuck Overton as the only players returning who started more than 10 games last season. Junior Dave Harrison, who started frequently late in the season, will return.

Hawking said he’s hopeful he can still sign another player this summer with Frigout’s scholarship. “I’d prefer to use the scholarship, rather than bank it,” he said.
