SANTA ANA : College’s Budget Gets Initial OK

The board of the Rancho Santiago Community College District has approved a tentative general fund budget for 1995-96 that calls for no cuts in classes, staff or faculty.
Meeting Monday, the trustees voted unanimously for the $74.9 million spending plan. Gary Murph, vice chancellor of business and fiscal services, described it as a “continuation” budget with no major changes that would affect students.
The budget does include several significant reductions, however. For example, the district contingency fund will be reduced by more than 50%, from $600,000 to $270,000. That fund is used for unexpected expenses such as computer equipment repairs, he said.
Also, the district will allocate $400,000 for workers’ compensation expenses, down from $700,000, to reflect reduced outlays anticipated.
