Disney Villains

If you’re looking for consistent themes in Disney’s animated blockbusters, why not point out that Disney villains (Jafar, Scar, Gaston) tend to be preening, effeminate, unmarried males (“Beauties of the Beast,” Calendar, June 23). “Pocahontas’ ” Ratcliffe seems to be joining this tradition; he dresses in pink, wears high heels, wears bows in his hair and dotes on a lap dog. I guess anything that flies in the face of traditional masculinity has to be evil and deserves to be destroyed (or in the case of all those missing mothers, ignored). Let’s see Disney animators create a villain who is stereotypically heterosexual for once.
