Sun Valley : High School Wins Beautification Award
- Share via
A Sun Valley high school has won the sweepstakes award for overall excellence in the Student Beautification Program sponsored by Los Angeles Beautiful Inc.
Students at John H. Francis Polytechnic High planted more than 50 five-gallon trees, created a drought-tolerant landscape at the Wildlife Waystation in Lake View Terrace, landscaped a private residence and improved a three-acre school garden in their award-winning effort.
The award culminated the 46th annual Student Beautification Program, which was launched in 1949 to give high school students with agricultural and environmental interests the opportunities to beautify their communities.
School teams are judged in three categories--school garden, community project and home project.
The program was co-sponsored by Los Angeles Unified School District and the Southern California Chapter of the Women’s Architectural League.
