Biopool Gets FDA OK to Sell Drug-Abuse Test Kits

Biopool International Inc., a Ventura producer of medical test kits, has been granted Food and Drug Administration approval to market a new product that detects the use of various illegal drugs.
The product was jointly developed by Biopool and Biosite Diagnostics Inc., an unrelated firm in San Diego.
Michael D. Bick, Biopool’s chairman and chief executive, said the new test provides results in 10 minutes. He said the worldwide market for drug-abuse tests exceeds $500 million annually.
