South Bay : OUT OF ORDER

Lawndale Mayor Harold Hofmann might have to fight for his gavel.
The City Council is planning a workshop to discuss whether they can strip Hofmann of his right to preside at council meetings. The council voted 3-2 last month to ask the city attorney to research the unusual request.
Council members complain that Hofmann interrupts speakers, cuts off political opponents and allows audience members to ramble.
“It’s not that we want to take him out as mayor,” said Councilwoman Virginia Rhodes. “We just want to take him out as far as running the meetings.”
Hofmann, who has served three two-year terms as mayor, denied the allegations, suggesting that Rhodes is bitter about losing to him in the last election.
“Not one of them told me who I cut off at the podium,” Hofmann said.
