The Black Creative Professionals Assn. is hosting a reception for comic book artist and publisher David G. Brown Friday night.
Brown recently won a $10,000 grant from the city Cultural Affairs Department to create a “community comic book” that will be distributed to inner-city neighborhoods.
Brown, a graphic artist, gained attention three years ago after creating the “L.A. Phoenix” comic book. In the series, the super-hero Phoenix rises from the ashes of burned-out buildings to battle crime across the city.
The 6:30 p.m. reception will be at Gallery Plus, 4333 Degnan Blvd. Information: (310) 397-1468.
