AMR to Buy Stake in JAL Reservations Unit: The Ft. Worth, Tex.-based firm’s reservations unit agreed to acquire a 25% stake in a similar unit of Japan Air Lines. Terms were not disclosed. AMR’s Sabre Travel Reservations Network and JAL’s Axess International Network will jointly market their computer reservations systems to travel agencies in Japan. Under the agreement, Axess will get an exclusive license to market all Sabre host functions, such as pricing and hotel booking capabilities, to Japanese travel agencies. The accord was made as AMR Corp., American Airlines Inc.’s parent, is working to boost its presence in Asia. AMR entered an alliance with JAL last month to expand their cargo units.
