St. Genevieve 33, Pius X 0--The Valiants held the Warriors (0-1) to 134 yards, and Danny Buhler and Kevin Hansen each scored two touchdowns in a Santa Fe League game at Birmingham High.
Pius X, a co-ed school in Downey, will become an all-girls’ school next year and originally planned not to play football this season. However, the school administration decided late in the summer to play only the league schedule.
The Valiants (2-2) got all the scoring they needed when Vince Pisano hooked up with Buhler on a 58-yard pass play for a touchdown late in the first quarter.
Pisano completed 10 of 19 for 233 yards and two touchdowns with an interception. Backup quarterback Rodney Villanueva threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Hansen.
St. Genevieve scored 26 points in the second half after leading, 7-0, at halftime.
