CONEJO VALLEY : Report to Focus on Youth Violence

A community task force, formed after five Conejo Valley youths were accused in the May stabbing death of an Agoura Hills boy, will unveil a list of recommendations Thursday on stemming teen-age violence.

The recommendations are based partly on input received at an Agoura Hills town meeting shortly after the killing, which shocked the community. Jess Thomas, a member of the task force, said the group is seeking volunteers to help implement some of the recommendations.

A town meeting will be held to discuss the recommendations at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the auditorium of Willow Elementary School, 5920 Rustling Oaks Drive, in Agoura Hills.

James Farris III, 16, was stabbed to death May 22 during what police say was an attempted robbery at the back-yard clubhouse of Michael McLoren, who was wounded. Police said four teen-agers from Ventura County and one from Los Angeles County participated in the attack after the two victims refused to unlock a drawer that contained marijuana and cash.

Brandon Wade Hein, 18, of Oak Park; Jason Holland, 18, and his brother, Micah, 15, of Thousand Oaks, and Tony Miliotti, 18, of Westlake Village are being held without bail until their trial, which is scheduled to begin early next year.

A fifth teen-ager, Chris Velardo, 18, of Oak Park, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and conspiracy to commit robbery and is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 28.
