A clerk working the overnight shift at a Santa Paula gas station was robbed early Monday by two men who threatened to kill him with a knife, authorities said.
According to police, Richard Venegas, 20, of Santa Paula, and Tony Garcia, 23, of Ventura, entered the Ultra Mart convenience store at 1202 E. Main St. shortly after midnight and asked the clerk for money.
Venegas held a knife to the clerk’s throat and threatened to kill him if he gave any information to the police, authorities said.
As the two suspects left the store, located at the corner of 12th and Main streets, the clerk called the police, authorities said.
Both suspects were later arrested and are being held at the Ventura County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail each.
