ORANGE COUNTY ALMANAC : Waterville Went With the Flow

The city of Cypress was once a rural community called Waterville, so named for its numerous artesian wells.
Farmers tapped the underground water with pipes that extended about 10 feet above ground. In the early 1900s, scores of wells extended for miles and, with their above-ground plumbing, were a prominent sight.
