THOUSAND OAKS : L.A. Crime Ring Suspected in Thefts
- Share via
Sheriff’s deputies believe the robbery of a Thousand Oaks man Wednesday night could be related to a Los Angeles crime ring.
The 60-year-old victim was robbed inside his own garage while getting out of his car in the 1600 block of Shetland Place. The thief demanded the man’s Rolex watch and cash and then fled to a waiting vehicle described as a dark, four-door Chevrolet, deputies said.
Last week, another Thousand Oaks resident was robbed of his Rolex watch inside his garage on Grey Feather Court by a man with a gun who fled on foot. No one was injured in either incident.
Deputies are unsure whether the victims were followed home.
There have been a rash of similar garage robberies of Rolex watches in the Los Angeles area, Detective Bill Montijo of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department said.
“It may well be the same ring,” Montijo said. “The descriptions and method of operation are very similar.”
