VILLA PARK : Council Elects Barsa to Serve as Mayor

Joseph S. Barsa has been elected by fellow City Council members to serve as the city’s mayor for the next year.

At their Tuesday night meeting, council members also elected Barry L. Denes mayor pro tem.

Barsa, 62, is a small-business owner who has lived in Villa Park for 25 years. He was elected to the council in 1990 and reelected in 1994. He served as mayor in 1991-92.

Barsa said his goals as mayor include maintaining financial stability for the city.

“I want to continue the fiscal responsibility that the current council is so concerned about,” he said. “I also want to minimize any further government regulation and to keep the city peaceful and a nice place to live.”
