Re “Keep Mexican Trucks Off U.S. Roads,” Commentary, Dec. 22:
Looking for unsafe trucks in your rearview mirror is not limited to Mexican trucks. Check your radio or TV any time and learn that an increasing number of freeway accidents involve trucks. How often have you had a dirt hauler blow by you on the freeway leaving in its wake a cloud of dirt and rocks or an 18-wheeler crawling up your rear bumper?
It’s lip service to say that both countries need to enforce stronger safety standards for trucks and drivers when U.S. unions, trucking industry and government won’t enforce existing safety standards and laws. Now with the increased speed limits, our highways will compete with the demolition derby.
