They Want You to Leave Home: American Express Co. and Delta Air Lines are selling a credit card that gives users one mile of air travel for every dollar charged. People who order the Delta SkyMiles Credit Card from American Express will also get 5,000 miles from Delta for signing up and 1.5 miles for every dollar they spend on Delta tickets. For six months after ordering the card, users will be charged an interest rate of 8.9%. Afterward, the interest rate will rise to the prime rate plus 9.4%, which today would mean a rate of 17.9%. Most of the other big airlines already have relationships with credit card companies. The biggest is AMR Corp.’s American Airlines AAdvantage frequent-flier program.
