Schools May Hire Technology Expert

Ventura Unified School District officials on Tuesday will ask the school board to create a new management position to help the district deal with its burgeoning technological needs.
The director of technology services would be charged with buying software, planning installation of computers and wiring, and making sure that everything runs smoothly, officials said.
A new position is needed because the district recently installed a sophisticated computer system that keeps track of student enrollment and other data, said Joseph Richards, assistant superintendent of business.
The district also hopes to buy more computers and eventually link each of its 24 schools to the Internet, Richards said. The position will take someone with expertise in computers to keep all the systems running, he said.
A salary for the job has not yet been set, Richards said. The board is expected to vote on the recommendation at its Jan. 31 meeting.
