Starbird Leads Stanford With 44

Kate Starbird scored a school-record 44 points to lead Stanford’s No. 6-ranked women’s basketball team to an 88-67 victory over USC Saturday at Palo Alto.
Starbird made seven of 11 three-point shots, 13 of 25 two-pointers and 11 of 13 free throws in 38 minutes. She also had four rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Stanford improved to 11-2 overall and 4-0 in the Pacific 10. USC is now 6-7 and 1-3.
Starbird had her previous career high of 33 in an 81-77 victory over UCLA on Thursday.
Tina Thompson led the Trojans with 20 points.
UCLA 75, California 64--Guard Erica Gomez scored a career-high 24 points and center Kisa Hughes pulled down 10 rebounds to lead the Bruins (7-6, 2-2) to a victory over Cal (5-8, 1-3) at Berkeley.
The Bruins led, 34-30, at halftime but were up by 15 points midway through the second half.
