Shutout Concerns Teammates More Than Vancouver’s Hirsch

Vancouver goalie Corey Hirsch says he wasn’t thinking about his first NHL shutout as the final seconds ticked away in Monday’s 6-0 victory at Boston.

“We did,” Alexander Mogilny countered on behalf of Hirsch’s teammates. “We didn’t want to let one goal spoil the shutout. Toward the end of the game, we thought about it a lot.”

Hirsch stopped 37 shots in running his record to 5-0-1 in his last six games. Mogilny scored his 35th goal and added two assists to lead Vancouver. It was the second time Boston had been blanked this year, both in the last week.

Esa Tikkanen also had a goal and two assists for Vancouver, giving him 10 points in five games.

New York Islanders 3, Tampa Bay 2--Niklas Andersson extended his point streak to eight games by scoring the eventual winning goal for the Islanders, who won at home and extended their unbeaten streak to six games (4-0-2).

Tommy Soderstrom, starting in goal for the 18th time in New York’s last 19 games, stopped 26 shots for the Islanders’ first victory against Tampa Bay in their last seven meetings (1-6-0).

Philadelphia 6, Dallas 1--Eric Lindros had a goal and two assists, getting his 300th NHL point, and John LeClair had two goals and an assist for the Flyers in a victory at home.

The Stars are 0-9-1 on the road since they beat Colorado, 7-6, in Denver on Dec. 3.
