LAPD Captain Accused of Sexual Harassment to Retire

A Los Angeles Police Department captain accused of sexual harassment by a female officer under his command has decided to retire, police said Thursday.
Capt. Robert Kurth, an LAPD veteran of 27 1/2 years, will officially leave the department on Saturday, said Cmdr. Tim McBride.
Kurth, 48, spent the last 2 1/2 years as commander of the West Los Angeles Division.
Officer Catherine Shuman, 33, filed a complaint against Kurth last November, accusing him of making sexual advances, including touching her leg and suggesting that they check into a hotel on one occasion.
Kurth was on vacation Thursday and could not be reached for comment. Colleagues said he had planned to retire long before Shuman filed her complaint.
An Internal Affairs investigation is ongoing. McBride said the probe will be concluded but that no action will be taken should the complaint be substantiated.
