Children Aboard Bus Unhurt in Collision

A driver ran a red light and hit a school bus Tuesday, giving children from Del Cerro Elementary School a scare but leaving them uninjured, California Highway Patrol officials said.
The Saddleback Valley Unified School District bus was carrying eight or nine students home about 3:30 p.m. when the accident occurred, CHP Officer Gilbert Payne said.
None of the children sought first aid, Payne said, but the driver of the other vehicle, a Chevrolet El Camino, was taken to Saddleback Hospital with a concussion and possible broken ribs. The El Camino driver was going north on Alicia Parkway as the school bus crossed Alicia Parkway on Costeau Street on a green light.
According to witnesses, the El Camino went through the red light and struck the bus. The bus came to rest after it hit a traffic light across the intersection.
The bus driver said the children were picked up by another bus and taken home. The bus driver also was uninjured.
“She was just shook up,” said Cole Franklin, another school bus driver.
