Westminster Makes History With Victory

Westminster defeated Ocean View for the first time in its 19-year history, 60-53, in overtime in a Golden West League boys’ basketball game Friday at Westminster.
Scott Yoshizaki scored seven of his 23 points and Brandon Fox had five of his 20 as the Lions (8-13, 3-3) outscored Ocean View, 15-8, in the extra period.
Erick Peterson scored 18 points for the Seahawks, who rallied from seven points down at the start of the fourth quarter.
In other Golden West League games:
Tustin 73, Servite 58--David Lalazarian had 32 points and eight steals for Tustin (19-3, 6-0), ranked second in the county. Peter Martinelli scored 16 points for Servite (10-11, 2-4).
Santa Ana 54, Saddleback 47--Danny Rivero scored 14 points for host Santa Ana (12-8, 4-2).
In the Academy League:
St. Margaret’s 72, Fairmont 43--Rob Miltner scored 17 points for St. Margaret’s (6-11, 4-2).
In the Century League:
Orange 44, Foothill 33--Steve Lein had 12 points and 12 rebounds for host Orange (11-10, 3-3), which led, 26-6, at halftime.
Santa Ana Valley 102, El Modena 67--Ike Harmon had 30 points and 12 rebounds and Olujimi Mann had 25 points and 10 assists for the host Falcons (13-7, 6-0), who led, 80-52, after three quarters.
In the Empire League:
Century 70, El Dorado 50--Chris Lopez had 26 points and Hector Beltran added 18 for Century (14-8, 4-2).
Cypress 70, Kennedy 62--Chad Boberg scored 25 points for Cypress (18-4, 5-1). David Hinojos scored 22 for Kennedy (6-16, 2-4).
Katella 70, Loara 49--Jacy Armbruster had 32 points and seven rebounds for Katella (16-4, 4-2).
In the Express League:
Downey Calvary Chapel 61, Heritage Christian 47--Jim Findlater scored 20 points for Heritage Christian (11-8, 6-3).
In the Freeway League:
Buena Park 67, La Habra 51--Courtney Smith scored 26 points and Towan Howard added 14 points and six assists for Buena Park (14-8, 4-2).
Sonora 59, Sunny Hills 48--Jeffrey Berokoff scored 18 points for Sonora (18-5, 6-0), ranked sixth in the county.
Troy 64, Fullerton 57 (OT)--Troy’s Jerry Inzunza, who had 27 points, made an outside jumper with four seconds remaining to send the game into overtime. Troy (13-9, 4-2) trailed Fullerton, 35-15, at halftime. Cory Schoonover scored 16 points for Fullerton (11-10, 3-3).
In the Garden Grove League:
Garden Grove 51, Pacifica 46--Frank Alvarez had 14 points and 14 rebounds for Garden Grove (13-10, 8-1).
Santiago 66, Bolsa Grande 56--Tony Dixon had 25 points and 18 rebounds for host Santiago (10-10, 3-5). Crispin Chavez scored 21 points for Bolsa Grande (8-14, 3-6).
In the Olympic League:
Calvary Chapel 82, Ontario Christian 67--Kevin Falconer had 23 points and 12 assists and Joe Ortiz added 22 points for visiting Calvary Chapel (17-4, 6-0).
Orange Lutheran 57, Brethren Christian 34--Jason Kemner scored 18 points for Orange Lutheran (8-11, 4-2).
Whittier Christian 68, Cerritos Valley Christian 61--Freshman Jon Stoa had 24 points and Brad Smith added 22 for host Whittier Christian (7-15, 4-2).
In the Orange League:
Brea Olinda 86, Magnolia 57--Brea Olinda outscored Magnolia, 33-13, in the first quarter. Sean Wink scored 19 points and Eric Repp added 17 for the sixth-ranked Wildcats (20-2, 6-0).
Western 47, Valencia 43--Matt Branstetter scored 15 points in the victory for Western (7-15, 2-4).
In the South Coast League:
Mater Dei 65, Trabuco Hills 58--Troy Harrell had 18 points and four three-pointers and Mike Vukovich had 14 rebounds and eight blocks for the top-ranked Monarchs (24-1, 7-0).
Nick Punto scored 25 points, including seven three-pointers, for Trabuco Hills (11-12, 3-4).
Mission Viejo 51, Dana Hills 43--Gabe Burt scored 16 points for Mission Viejo (16-8, 2-5), which led, 18-8, after one quarter. Mike Hutchens scored 13 points for Dana Hills (11-12, 1-6).
San Clemente 62, Capistrano Valley 59--Rick Saul made three of four free throws in the final 10 seconds for San Clemente (13-10, 3-4). Austin Moherman scored 29 points and had 11 rebounds for Capistrano Valley (14-10, 5-2), which had a chance to tie, but Ryan Thurlow missed a three-pointer at the buzzer.
In the Sunset League:
Esperanza 62, Huntington Beach 40--Josh Greer had 23 points and eight rebounds for host Esperanza (19-3, 5-1), ranked third in the county.
Fountain Valley 53, Marina 49--Timm Katz scored 18 points and and Nate Strange added 13 for Fountain Valley (10-11, 3-3).
Los Alamitos 70, Edison 59--Cory Johnson scored 18 points for fifth-ranked Los Alamitos (16-5, 5-1). Brian Slusser scored 23 for the Chargers (11-10, 2-4).
In Academy League girls’ basketball:
Liberty Christian 50, Connelly 40--Becky Rendon scored 18 points for Liberty Christian (11-7, 4-2).
St. Margaret’s 57, Fairmont 50--Jean Freeman had 21 points and 14 rebounds for St. Margaret’s.
In the Garden Grove League:
Santiago 32, Bolsa Grande 25--Angie Ching-Sam had 17 points and 12 rebounds for host Santiago (8-13, 4-4).
