Man Crashes Vehicle to Escape Carjacking

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The way Robert Phillips saw it, armed carjackers who took his wallet and ordered him to drive to his bank were going to kill him anyway. So he crashed his sports car into a parked semitrailer, allowing him a chance to escape and leaving one of his teenage abductors dead.
“I honestly feel very strange about that,” said Phillips, who was saved by the car’s only air bag. “But I have a hard time hurting for him.”
The second suspect was not seriously hurt and was charged with kidnapping and carjacking. Authorities said Phillips will not be charged in the weekend incident.
