Reader’s Digest Editor Resigns: Reader’s Digest Assn. Inc. said Kenneth Tomlinson has quit, two weeks after the firm announced a streamlining that included the firing of as many as 1,000 employees. The Pleasantville, N.Y.-based book and magazine publisher said Tomlinson, 51, left after six years as editor in chief to pursue other interests. He could not be reached for comment. A successor will be appointed from within the magazine in the next few months, said James Schadt, chairman and chief executive. Reader’s Digest is the world’s largest general-interest magazine, with circulation of 27 million globally and 15 million in the United States. In addition to reducing its work force by 15%, the streamlining includes the sale of Travel Holiday magazine.
