Company Town : A&M; to Promote Cafaro to CEO

Al Cafaro is about to be promoted to chairman and chief executive of A&M; Records, home to such rock acts as Soundgarden, Sheryl Crow and Blues Traveler. The 47-year-old former record promotion man has been running the West Hollywood label as president since 1990--one year after A&M; founders Jerry Moss and Herb Alpert sold it to PolyGram, a subsidiary of the Dutch Electronics company Philips, which also owns Island, Motown and Mercury Records.
* Talent whiz Michael Goldstone, who is credited with signing rock stars Pearl Jam and Rage Against the Machine, is expected to leave Epic Records this year and join the artist and repertoire division of DreamWorks SKG, sources said.
* Vicky Miller has been promoted to executive vice president, finance and planning, Turner Entertainment Group.
