IRVINE — A teenager was in guarded condition Monday after he was shot in the abdomen after an argument in a parking lot, police said.
About 10:15 p.m. Sunday, Irvine police were called to the Palace Park, a miniature golf and family recreation center in the 3400 block of Michelson Drive. Witnesses said three or four shots rang out moments before several vehicles raced from the parking lot, police said.
Officers checked local hospitals for possible gunshot victims. One hospital, which is not being identified, reported admitting a young male with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Police believe the victim was shot after an argument in the parking lot outside the recreation center.
John Rouse, general manager for the center, expressed sympathy for the injured youth and his family. He said the center’s security guards are cooperating with police investigating the incident.
“We’re not really sure what happened,” Rouse said. “We had security on the scene immediately.”
