Golden West No Match for No. 1 Ventura

Gerald Zimmerman had 17 points and was one of five to score in double figures as Ventura College defeated Golden West, 92-69, in a Southern California first-round regional playoff game.
Ray Jimmerson scored 36 points and kept Golden West (14-21) close at the half, but Ventura (29-2) outscored the Rustlers, 47-31, after the break.
Jamal Cobbs scored 14 points and had 11 assists. Damian Cantrell had 10 rebounds.
The victory was the 16th in a row for top-seeded Ventura.
Antelope Valley 77, Moorpark 73--Jerome Payton scored 25 points for the Marauders (25-6), who were nearly upset by the 27th-seeded team in a first-round game at Antelope Valley.
Wendell Nunnery scored 32 points and Tim Nunnery added 22 for the Raiders (15-17), who were within a point at halftime against the sixth-seed Marauders.
Brian Burleson added 14 points for Antelope Valley.
WOMEN
Canyons 79, Citrus 68--A 10-0 scoring run in the last three minutes of play gave Canyons (20-12) a first-round victory.
The game was tied, 37-37, late in the second half, when Maxine Unverferth spurred the Cougars, scoring seven of her 17 points during the last-minute scoring flurry. Melissa Dunkerley had 14 points for Canyons.
Purple Johnson led Citrus (13-18) with 23 points, and Julie Cruz added 15.
