An avalanche killed at least 32 people in a village in northern Pakistan. A Defense Ministry spokesman in the capital, Islamabad, said the death toll could rise because at least a dozen people had not been accounted for. Five houses were engulfed and two others flattened by tons of snow that poured down from a mountain overlooking the village of Kel, Associated Press of Pakistan said. Rescue workers were struggling to clear the snow, but efforts were hampered by poor weather and difficulty reaching the village.
