SEASON AT A GLANCE: Much was expected of Mortensen after she won the national cross-country championships in December, yet she has topped those expectations. She ran a personal best of 4 minutes 53.27 seconds in the mile last month in the L.A. Invitational indoor meet and clocked 10:17.0 for 3,200 meters in the Channel Coast Invitational at Camarillo High on Saturday.

WEEK AT A GLANCE: Mortensen’s time in the 3,200 was the fastest in the state--and second fastest in the nation this year. “I figure the times will come if you’re having fun and doing the things you should be doing in training,” she said.
