Clash Overcomes Balboa’s Goal, Beats the Rapids, 3-1

The San Jose Clash will carry a two-game winning streak into Sunday afternoon’s game against the Los Angeles Galaxy after coming from behind to beat the Colorado Rapids, 3-1, Wednesday night.

Before 12,972, U.S. national team defender Marcelo Balboa of Cerritos scored for Colorado (2-2) in the second minute, but San Jose (3-3) replied with goals by Jeff Baicher in the 35th minute, Paul Bravo in the 37th and Tim Martin in the 72nd.

Tampa Bay 2, Kansas City 0--A goal by Colombian midfielder Carlos Valderrama in the 41st minute and another by Diego Viera in the 50th earned the Mutiny the victory in front of 7,025 at Tampa Stadium.

The Mutiny (3-2) broke a two-game losing streak while recording its first shutout of the season. The Wiz dropped to 3-3.

“We wanted to erase the bad memories of the last two losses, especially the one in New York that had to do with some defensive lapses,” said Tampa Bay Coach Thomas Rongen said.
