Sewage Discharge Prompts Warning

An estimated 2,000 gallons of sewage was accidentally discharged into the ocean near San Jon Road in Ventura on Thursday, prompting county environmental health officials to issue a warning to avoid contact with ocean water in that area.
“Keep Out” signs have been posted on the beach to warn swimmers, surfers and beach-goers to stay away from the contaminated area.
About 6,000 gallons of sewage were released after a sewer line broke, although only an estimated 2,000 gallons washed into the ocean, county officials said.
Although the discharge has been controlled, beach-goers should avoid contact with ocean water within a quarter-mile of the drain for 72 hours, county officials said.
