Kelsey Kollen
Mater Dei, Sophomore
Softball/Second base
Leadoff hitter Kollen has a specific role for the Monarchs. “Her job is to get on base,” Coach Doug Myers said, “and there’s nobody who does it better.” That certainly showed last week. Kollen had five hits in eight at-bats, raising her batting average to .591 and leading her team to the Southern Section Division I championship. In an 8-0 semifinal victory over Canyon, she scored three runs and drove in two. Against Camarillo in the title game, she beat out an infield single to drive in the tying run in a 3-1 victory. Kollen, the co-South Coast League most valuable player, finished the season with 68 hits, a section record.
