SANTA ANA — Police found a 19-year-old man shot to death Thursday in the lobby of his apartment building after a dispute with another man.
Eddie Yanez had been shot in the head, chest and lower body with a small-caliber handgun, Santa Ana Police Sgt. Dick Faust said.
Officers responded to apartments in the 1100 block of West Civic Center Drive about 2 p.m. Thursday and found him lying on the lobby floor.
“Investigators learned that the victim had been seen in the company of another male who . . . is considered a suspect in this case,” Faust said. “The exact motive for the killing has not yet been determined, but is believed to involve a dispute over a vehicle.”
The assailant, described by police only as a 23-year-old Latino, 5-foot-10, 170 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes, fled the scene in a white Nissan pickup truck. The truck was later found in the area of the 2000 block of West Myrtle Street, but police were still searching for the assailant.
