A drive-by shooting at a Pico Rivera gas station left two people dead and four others injured, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies said Monday.
Luis Gonzalez, 16, and an unidentified 26-year-old were fatally wounded, and two friends with whom they were standing were struck by gunfire shortly before midnight Sunday at a parking lot on Washington Boulevard, Deputy Matthew Rodriguez said. One of the injured youths was hospitalized in critical condition, authorities.
Meanwhile, two 17-year-olds who drove up to the scene during the attack were also injured, one of them seriously. Their relationship to the other victims was unclear, Rodriguez said.
None of the victims returned fire, Rodriguez said, and they told police they did not recognize their assailants.
“Apparently they were caught off-guard,” he said. “They were shot by suspects they didn’t know.”
