Firm Breaks Ground for Auto Parts Store at Riot Flash Point

Local officials broke ground Monday for an auto parts supply store at the northwest corner of Florence and Normandie avenues, a flash point of the 1992 riots.
The Pep Boys Parts USA store at the South-Central location is scheduled to open in late October and will employ about 20 local residents, many of whom will have graduated from the Los Angeles Urban League Automotive Training Center.
“This project will help to revitalize the intersection of Florence and Normandie. No doubt, the intersection is well known to people throughout the world for negative and/or tragic reasons,” said Councilman Mark Ridley-Thomas.
