Feeling The Heat In Atlanta

On Courtland Street, less than a mile from the main Olympic venues, volunteer Lisa Belkins was sitting on the curb, pouring cold water over the back of a fan overcome by the mid-90s heat.
“I think I’m gonna faint,” said Susan Wright, a flushed and red-faced teen.
“No you’re not, baby, you’re OK,” Belkins cooed, a Florence Nightgale with an ACOG ID tag.
“I think I’m gonna be sick,” Wright said.
“Well go ahead, sweetheart,” Belkin said. “Nobody’s gonna see ya but this nice man from the newspaper.”

The heat contributed to Chinese shooter Wang Yifu’s failure to make the finals in the 50-meter free pistol.
He had an oxygen container and water bottle at his side as he had trouble maintaining his balance, constantly massaged the top of his head, took deep breaths, and several times appeared ready to topple forward. His problems began Saturday, when he collapsed after losing the air pistol gold medal on his last shot.
