Compost Workshop Scheduled Today

Looking to do something responsible with all those grass clippings? Have more kitchen scraps than garbage space?

The city of Thousand Oaks and the Conejo Recreation and Park District are sponsoring a free home compost workshop from 9 a.m. to noon today at Conejo Creek Park next to the Moorpark Freeway.

Residents can learn how to recycle yard trimmings and certain foods into a rich soil product for their lawns. Compost bins will be available at discount prices and there will be a drawing for a free compost bin.

Those interested in taking part should bring a folding chair and a bag of vegetable scraps for a compost demonstration. There will also be a discussion on beneficial insects and the benefits of composting on the environment.

The workshop will take place at the park’s Willow Bend Picnic Area at 1379 E. Janss Road. For more information, call Thousand Oaks’ recycling hotline at 449-SAVE.
